Undergraduate Islamic Studies
Duke University offers a variety of courses that explore Islamic traditions, texts and histories.
The religious studies department allows undergraduates to specialize in Islamic studies and to explore topics including the histories of Muslim women and Islamic communities in the Americas.
Duke’s first year FOCUS program also offers seminars on the Middle East and Islam in historical and contemporary contexts, focusing on the significance of Islam, the role of gender in Middle Eastern cultures, and the linkages between religious beliefs and political ideologies. Together these courses support students in developing nuanced understandings of the Middle East and Islam.
