    • femen
I did a double-take when I saw the words “Topless Jihad” in a news headline earlier this Spring. My first thought was “editorial mistake?” The story that followed made me wish the headline was an error.   This past April, Femen – a Ukrainian based feminist group whose movement has spread… Read More

Duke Islamic Studies students are encouraged to combine academic study and scholarship with language acquisition and international, cross-cultural experiences. The core components of undergraduate Islamic Studies are the Undergraduate Certificate in Islamic Studies, Muslim Cultures Focus cluster, and DISC DukeEngage programs.

Duke's Focus Program

Duke's Focus Program for first-year students offers clusters of courses related to an interdisciplinary theme. The DISC Focus cluster explores the diverse histories and cultures of Muslims. It requires no prior knowledge of Islam or the Middle East and has attracted both Muslim and non-Muslim students.

DukeEngage

DISC's DukeEngage programs embody the DukeEngage mission that "students apply what they have learned in the classroom to address societal issues at home and abroad."

This video is a cover of لا للديكتاتورية originally by four inspiring Sudanese artists (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4P0qhp...). It was produced by intermediate Arabic students at Duke.
