"MUSLIMS IN AMERICA: THE NEXT TEN YEARS":

Conference panels were recorded and may be viewed on iTunesU.

Panel 1: Radicalization: How It Happens, How to Prevent it: This panel features Charles Kurzman, David Schanzer and Imam Abdullah Antepli. They will discuss the latest facts and figures on the scope and size of homegrown terrorism incidents across the U.S., as well as studies on Muslim cooperation with security forces, issues of acculturation and accommodation, and how the climate of anti-Muslim hostility in the wake of the Park 51 controversy, the Peter King hearings, and the anti-shari’a movement are affecting U.S. Muslims.

Panel 2: Muslim-American Youth: Growing Up in Post-9/11 America:

What has growing up been like for young Muslim Americans who have come of age in an era characterized by the securitization of Muslims at home and the fight against Islamic terrorism abroad?  Today’s college students are particularly well-suited to address this question, and their answers may surprise you.  Abdullah Antepli, Muslim Chaplain at Duke University, speaks with four undergraduates from local universities as they discuss growing up in the U.S. as American Muslims in the 21st century.

    • Eboo Patel, RNA Keynote, Sept 2011

"A major story of Muslims in America over the past 10 years is Muslims saying 'we are going to be part of the American project,'" Eboo Patel told a national gathering of religion reporters at the “Muslims in America” conference in September 20122. Patel, founding director of the Interfaith Youth Core, gave the keynote address at the conference, which DISC hosted for the Religion Newswriters Association. The conference was funded by a grant from the Social Science Research Council.
